Rapa das Bestas 2020

From 15th to 16th August 2020

The Association Rapa das Bestas de Sabucedo, organizer of the ancient tradition that bears the same name, has decided to postpone the 2020 edition to a new date, which will be next August 14, 15 and 16, if conditions allow it and being this decision reviewed in July.
The Rapa das Bestas de Sabucedo, according to legend, was born in a time of plague, and overcame similar events such as the 1918 Flu, as well as others of a tragic nature such as the Civil War of 1936-1939, years in which the women, the elder and children kept the tradition and “did not leave a besta without shearing” as they told themselves.
Therefore, we understand that, even with the current situation, the Board of Directors of the Association Rapa das Bestas de Sabucedo must do everything as possible to maintain our tradition, whose main purpose is to shear, identify and deworm this horses. The identification brings together a series of legal parameters that we must comply according with the law and the insurance company, without neglecting the deworming process and horse care, a fundamental part of the work carried out by the Association which we are especially proud of.
Based on that idea and observing the current framework, we made the decision to MOVE THE RAPA DAS BESTAS TO THE 15TH AGOUST WEEKEND.
In July, the situation will be reviewed before making a final decision, in which the residents of Sabucedo will decide on the feasibility of the celebration, and if so, decide the best way, as long as sanitary permissions from the Public Administrations is given.
Finally, we want to especially thank our neighbors for their willingness to move forward, since they are the ones who make this centennial tradition possible with their effort and commitment.
Thank you very much for your understanding and great encouragement.
