O Pazo de Oca

This treasure of architecture and landscaped gardening is probably the most representative of Galicia.

The gardens are open to public visits and their layout, which date from the 1720s, are the result of a reinterpretation of French landscaping tradition. They consist of a series of independently articulated areas, each with its own character. The Baroque style of the design and incessant flowing of water blend with granite and an array of unusual plant species.

The Pazo de Oca is owned by the Casa Ducal de Medinaceli Foundation and forms part of the Camelia Route. An evocative journey from northern to southern Galicia through 12 manor houses and gardens – public and private – where the camellia reigns in all its glory. There are some 8,000 varieties in gardens linked to the historical heritage of Galicia
